Your privacy matters
Bible Journal ("we", "us") is built with privacy in mind. Your journals are personal, and we treat them that way. We collect only what's needed to provide the app, we never sell your data, and we never use your journal content for advertising. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information you provide
- Account information: your email address, and a display name and profile photo if you add one. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from that provider. You can also request a one-time email sign-in link.
- Your content: the journal entries, prayers, notes, voice recordings, drawings, highlights, and photos you create. This is stored on your device and, when you're signed in, synced to your private account so it's available across your devices.
- Support messages: anything you send us when you contact us.
Information collected with your permission
The app only accesses these after you grant permission, and only for the feature you're using:
- Microphone: to record voice journals, which are transcribed into text.
- Camera & photo library: to add photos to an entry.
- Location: optional. If you turn it on, we tag where an entry was written. Location is never collected in the background.
- Contacts: optional. If you choose to import people, we use your contacts only to create those entries.
- Notifications: to send gentle reminders and updates, if you allow them.
AI features
Some features use AI to transcribe voice recordings and to generate reflections, summaries, prayers, and study guidance. When you use these features, the relevant content (for example, the audio or text of an entry) is sent to our AI processors to produce the result. This content is used only to provide the feature and is not used to train third-party models.
Analytics, diagnostics & attribution
- Usage analytics: we collect app-usage events to understand what's working and improve the app.
- Crash & performance diagnostics: to find and fix bugs.
- Install attribution & links: when you open a shared or invite link, we process a device identifier to route you to the right content and understand how links are used.
Subscriptions
Premium is an auto-renewable subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and we never receive your full payment details. Our payments provider gives us your subscription status and purchase history (tied to an app-specific identifier) so we can unlock Premium features for your account.
How we use your data
We use the information above only to:
- Provide, sync, and secure your journal and account
- Deliver the features you use, including AI-assisted ones
- Process and restore your Premium subscription
- Improve the app and fix problems
- Send you updates and reminders you've asked for
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use your journal content for any purpose beyond providing the service.
Third-party services
We use a small number of trusted providers, each bound by data-processing agreements, to operate the app:
- Cloud infrastructure, authentication, database, and storage (Google Firebase)
- AI processing for transcription and reflections (OpenAI, Google)
- Subscription management (RevenueCat)
- Product analytics (PostHog)
- Link attribution and deep linking (Branch)
- Place lookup for optional location tagging (Google)
Data retention & security
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. All data transmission is encrypted with TLS, and cloud storage is encrypted at rest. We regularly review our security practices and address issues promptly.
Your rights & choices
- Delete your account: you can permanently delete your account and its associated data from within the app (Profile → Delete account). Deletion is irreversible.
- Access & export: you can export your journals at any time.
- Permissions: you can revoke microphone, camera, photos, location, contacts, or notification access in your device settings.
- Manage your subscription: in your Apple or Google account settings.
International users & data transfers
Bible Journal is operated from the United States and available worldwide. If you use the app from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. and other countries where we or our providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
Your rights in the EEA & UK (GDPR)
If you're in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Our legal bases for processing are: performance of our contract with you (to provide the app), your consent (for example, optional permissions and AI features), and our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the app). You may withdraw consent at any time and have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact us.
Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you're a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used, to request access to or deletion of it, to correct it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes that would require an opt-out. To make a request, contact us.
Children's privacy
Bible Journal is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of Bible Journal after changes constitutes acceptance.
